A Vision of Beulah

Thursday, 28 October 2021 at 22:43

Urizen and nets on Dr John Dunn. Urizen casts his net, by William Blake

A Vision of Beulah

And Ananke created Urizen to distract the innocents away from the eternal God,

And Urizen’s jealousy of mankind brought forth self-hatred in himself, which in turn brought forth his vengeful hatred of Eros,

And the children of Urizen inherited this self-hatred, which in turn festered their vengeful hatred of Logos, God, the Word, the Cosmic Jesus, living thought, creativity and Love,

And after murdering Love, they sought to drag mankind down into the innocence of Beulah, a place of dumb idiocy, where all is commodity, everything has its price, and all have equal rights,

And in Beulah the differences of social status were defined by money, in a world where money makes more money,

And diversity and difference were expunged by reducing status and the measure of human estimation to that which is easily calculable,

And money turned desire for gain into the sole motive, outweighing all other motives, because the effort it demands of the mind is so very much less; nothing being so clear and so simple as a row of figures,

And out of self-hatred and vengeful hatred, the children of Urizen reduced the innocents to a parody of themselves,

And creativity died.

And Urizen cast the net of debt over all.

Heritage turnpike

Heritage turnpike

What constitutes an interesting heritage turnpike?

It must be largely untampered with, i.e. it still passes through the villages and towns on the original route, with no by-passes. The roads through these settlements must retain the same bends and curves in the road that the turnpike had as it inched its way though long-standing village streets and town squares.

The road must have had some continuity into the motoring era, retaining a largely unaltered state, but also conveying vehicles along a route of real value up to as near the present as possible.

The Rugby to North Kilworth Turnpike is one such route. It was established by a Trust in 1801, eventually to be disbanded in 1870s, when steam railways drained most of the toll paying traffic away.

Nevertheless, it retained its integrity as a route well into the modern era, being designated as the A427 until the 1960s, when it was downgraded to the B5414. In more recent years, the road has been downgraded still further to unclassified.

It has the characteristics mentioned above, with wonderfully sharp slow bends in the village centres of Clifton-upon-Dunsmore, St Thomas Cross, Catthorpe and Swinford. (Between the two latter villages of course strides the Catthorpe Interchange, through which the old road threads its way with remarkably little disruption.) Only through South Kilworth does the road pass straight through, albeit right through the centre of the village.

The old turnpike end at North Kilworth is interesting, in that the A427 continued on to Market Harborough and beyond, i.e. the directional integrity of the main road was, until the 1960s, considered to be Market Harborough to Rugby and on to Warwick, rather than the Market Harborough to Lutterworth continuity of the A4304 as it stands today.

In short summary, an old road redolent of the turnpike era, the early motoring era and the transition period between the two.

In the beginning

Eros and egg on Dr John Dunn. Continuing to build the mythology

In the beginning

And the Cosmos was without being,

And the Cosmos without being was the One,

And having no being, the One = nought, 1 = 0,

And Ananke, undifferentiated Oneness, equilibrium, the endless repeating cycle, stasis, reigned supreme.

In the beginning was Love, known also as the Logos, the Word, God, the Cosmic Jesus, living thought, creativity.

And Love violated Ananke,

And cosmic innocence was lost, felix culpa,

And Eros emerged from the Cosmic Egg.

Conundrum

Fixed destiny on Dr John Dunn. Ananke by Gilbert Bayes

Conundrum

And why is Eros tempted by evil?

Ananke, symbol of undifferentiated Oneness, equilibrium, the endless repeating cycle and entropic death, is Evil’s closest ally.

Eve was drawn to the Serpent.

The champion of violation is Eros, but why? Why is Love so drawn to Evil?

Why is the urge to violate the daughters of Ananke so irresistible to Eros, the son of Love?

It is because the urge to create is the defining aspect of man, just as it is the defining aspect of Love, the first Creator.

Eros is driven to break the daughters of Ananke and end the cycle.

Man is driven to penetrate the still darkness of the cave and paint on the walls.

Your soul will never be known entirely;
But for Eros, you would never be known at all.
All I can hope is to enter
And paint my dreams on your wall.
Man is driven to cross the water and penetrate new continents.
I looked over the still dark waters and saw you there,
Eternal, wild, and infinite.
Is creativity, that is violation, encouraged by Love?
An angel occupied your body and spoke to me… touched me… and drew me towards the Divinity.

Thus spake

Blake's Urizen on Dr John Dunn. Pictured: Urizen by William Blake

Thus spake

Eros went down the mountain alone.

An awakened one is Eros: what will you do in the land of the sleepers?

Could it be possible! They have not yet heard of it, that God is dead!

Teach them Eros! Tell them where you’ve been.
I climbed the heights to look down upon the Synagogue of Satan.
You think you see the Creator, but He is not an entity apart.
What you see instead is Urizen, the demiurge, a self-deluded and anxious shaper of pre-existent matter.
When you worship Urizen you worship Satan, the puppeteer pulling the strings of mankind, the over-bearing father, the failed architect, the ‘Accuser of the World'.
You have been infected by the children of Urizen into Devil Worship.

Man must and will have some religion; if he has not the religion of Jesus, he will have the religion of Satan, and will erect the Synagogue of Satan. (William Blake)

Charge of the ‘Jackie Veal-Calves’

Friday, 22 October 2021 at 22:25

Cover of great poem on Dr John Dunn. Charge of the ‘Jackie Veal-Calves’

An analysis of the next part (extract below*) of Roy Campbell’s great epic poem about the Spanish Civil War. The poem read so far can be seen here.

The ‘they’ doing the serving ‘like waiters’ were the stay-at-home supporters of the Spanish leftists.

Despite the warning to beef up what until now Campbell has deemed the weak, pseudo-intellectual fops exemplified by the Bloomsbury Set, the ‘They’ served up as volunteers the veal-calves, complete with mustard.

The‘mustard-coloured’ hair suggests these were babes, innocent, naive, and completely without any understanding of what they were getting into.

Campbell is making the point that the Francoists could not have wished for anything better. The International Brigaders were pathetic as a so-called fighting force.

I am not sure to what the ‘boycotts refer; it might be fashionable Bloomsbury-type boycotts of Spanish goods in one way or another. Campbell might even be referring to boycotts of his own work by left-wing publishers etc. One way or another, ‘they’ tried to marginalise Campbell, having been shocked by his failure to tow the Bloomsbury line.

Campbell prophesied the slaughter of the, ‘Jackie Veal-Calves’, but was wrong about this. Most Brigaders surrendered to the ‘Wops’ (Italian anti-communist volunteers), causing those in charge of Francoist supplies a problem of how to keep the captives fed. In vain did the quarter-masters try to find enough grapenuts for these left-wing food faddists.

Better it was to be nice to them and send them all home, even though they had committed crimes against the most defenceless of targets, churches and farms, which only served to bring the cattlemen (the antitheses of veal-calves) out to fight.

These naive Brigaders had disgraced England by blundering into Spain with such ‘unholy ridicule’.

I warned John Bull to fatten up his son
And Jackie Veal-Calf to be underdone
When with their stainless cutlery and steel
Like waiters they would serve their own cold veal,
Yes, even blobbed with mustard-coloured hair,
Which I’d forgot to order—all was there
A prophet’s feast of laughter to prepare!
And vain were all their boycotts to deflect
My prophesies that hiss their hair erect,
Who guaranteed their Popular Behinds
To show a pair of cheeks to all the winds,
And could as easily, in my Delphic rapture,
Have prophesied their slaughter as their capture,
But here the very Quater-masters vex
For Turkey-food to redden up their necks
Till, all unhurt, we ship them to their shops
With grapenuts still distended in their crops
If we can find any—treating them kindly
To send them home from where they rushed so blindly
To fling their scraping curtseys to the Wops,
After they’d sacked the Churches, looted farms,
And raised us angry cattlemen in arms—
Leftness of Hand (the shame of work and war)
Disgracing England on a foreign shore,
Whose honour here I battle to restore
From such unholy ridicule to save her.

Turnpikes around Welford

Thursday, 21 October 2021 at 22:09

Hands on the bars on Dr John Dunn. New YouTube video, Turnpikes around Welford.

The roads under our wheels offer the real motoring history, and it is free to explore. Here I do some exploring in Northamptonshire and Leicestershire on my Royal Enfield Classic 500.

“…It’s a joy to be out motorcycling.”

“…and there’s South Kilworth up ahead, where the town grew up around the crossroads of this road and the North Kilworth to Rugby Turnpike…”

“…and there, up ahead, that white building, is the White Hart, an old coaching inn for travellers along the turnpike”
